Rep. Kevin McDugle renews call for evidentiary hearing in Richard Glossip case

An Oklahoma lawmaker is renewing calls for Attorney General John O’Connor to agree to an evidentiary hearing in the case of death row inmate Richard Glossip.

Rep. Kevin McDugle sent a letter to O’Connor on behalf of 62 state lawmakers calling for an evidentiary hearing. An evidentiary hearing would allow new evidence in the case to be presented.

O’Connor has already declined a request for an evidentiary hearing once this year.

“You have a final chance now to make things right. As has been said, it is never too late to do the right thing,” McDugle wrote in his letter to O’Connor. “In your press release, you said that your office is ‘fully devoted to our responsibility as prosecutors to seek justice.’ The vast problems in this conviction are now fully in the public eye and can no longer be denied.”
